Granite Hill Estates Residents Speak Out...

Howard Jochimsen, a resident of the Maine Lodge at GHE since December of 2003, wishes he had found GHE right away. My apartment is twice as big as what I had before, and I’m paying the same amount of money. Howard went on to exclaim how great the food is, I’ve never enjoyed such a variety of food. Howard truly takes advantage of all that GHE has to offer, he uses the exercise room daily, he likes having use of a heated indoor swimming pool whenever he chooses, and he even grew his own garden on GHE grounds last year, producing the biggest tomatoes he had ever grown! When I walked in here, I said oh, I can’t believe this, I finally got lucky.

In addition to its obvious physical attributes, GHE always presents an aura of warmth and cordiality. This is demonstrated not only by the entire staff but by all of us who live here and bid newcomers welcome to our home. Joan Bridge, resident since August of 2004.

Jean Harvell, who has been a cottage resident since the summer of 2001 said she couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. This was it; we didn’t look at any other place. Jean loves the independence of living in a cottage, while at the same time fully enjoying the use of the indoor swimming pool, the exercise room, the library and the other amenities the Maine Lodge has to offer.

Ester Edwards has been a resident in the Maine Lodge since May of 2001, and her daughter Patricia Edwards couldn’t be happier that her mom has found such contentment at GHE. Ester’s favorite thing about GHE is the friends she has made, It’s like a big family. Patricia has been put at ease knowing her mom is close by, safe, and has all of her new friends to socialize with. Ester loves the cuisine that is served in the dining room, and enjoys working in her garden, as well as the virtually maintenance free life GHE can offer.

Ginny Dogherty, who was the first resident of GHE, continues to be pleased with her decision go make GHE her home. After five years I still love my happy and carefree life at Granite Hill Estates. It is also a pleasure to know the friendly residents and to participate in the many available activities. She went on to explain that it is nice to have the independence of a cottage without the worry of maintenance. I love having my own home, but yet having someone to shovel the snow and mow the lawn, and knowing that my children feel I’m secure.

Granite Hill Estates is the place to be. Cottage living is the life for me. With a variety of activities there is something interesting for everyone, along with enjoying new friendships, Gladys Smith, cottage resident since December, 2000.

Eighty-six years old. Alone in a 10-room house. UGH! Discovered Granite Hill Estates. Sold house. Bought apartment in the Maine Lodge. No more UGH! Helpful staff. Comfort. Great cuisine. Friendly neighbors. A-1 maintenance. Easy Living. Welcome. - Herm Stover, a resident of the Maine Lodge at Granite Hill Estates since December of 2004.

Gladys McLeary, a cottage resident since April of 2000 said, I had someone ask me what I didn’t like about living here, and I couldn’t think of anything. McLeary said that the comfortable size of the campus and the friendliness of residents as well as staff, make GHE great place to come home to.

Richard & Eldena Steinberger, cottage residents since December of 2003 were attracted to GHE initially for the 135 acre campus, set amidst the trees, boasting beautiful walking trails. Eldena explained that you get the best of both worlds; GHE is positioned in this country setting, while at the same time being convenient to the city, and not far from the mountains or the coast. Eldena also loves the relationships she has formed at GHE, along with all of the activities she can opt to participate in, I like the people here. It’s like a little community here, a little hamlet.

Maxine Avery, a Maine Lodge Resident. After a lot of thought and encouragement from my family, I found myself meeting with Steve Roy and learning about GHE. Quite a few meetings and some months later, I signed up to live in an apartment in the Maine Lodge. I worried how, at 81, would I make a new set of friends. I knew no one here. I needn’t have worried, the folks here, all of them, are lovely, interesting people. Many times I think how lucky I am to be here. I treasure the friends I have here. I’m glad I have a daughter and son-in-law nearby and I’m grateful to the excellent staff who keeps everything moving smoothly.

It was with the urging of my two daughters that I made the smart move to Granite Hill Estates and it seemed as if I had made fifty (plus or minus) friends overnight. Even though we have no reveille here there is a good way to start the day by joining Jayne’s moaners and groaners [Granite Hill Senior Athletes Fitness Class] and getting some beautiful exercise. Not strenuous, but fun! Ben Holden, Maine Lodge Resident.

Mildred Stengel, a fairly new cottage resident could not be happier with her home. Perhaps one of the biggest draws for her was the safety of the environment, which she and her two daughters find to be extremely reassuring. Ultimately Mildred said she is incredibly pleased that she decided to move here given all that Granite Hill Estates has to offer. I think the staff is excellent. I think there is a real sense of community here, it is a real friendly place, and I have absolutely no complaints.
