Within the Central Maine Region, an impressive array of cultural
attractions and activities await discovery.
The Capital Area includes more than 20 small cities and towns in
central Maine surrounding the capital city, Augusta. With a population of about
70,000, the area has a workforce of 45,000 people.
The Augusta area and Waterville area Chambers since 1995 have combined efforts to
create the People of the Kennebec economic area, now Maine’s second largest labor
market (72,000) and Maine’s second largest retail sales market ($1.2 billion).
These efforts continue to bring together a large number of resources to help
provide quality job growth and business growth while preserving the best of our
environment and quality of life in this Capital region.
The area is rich in history, culture, educational resources, industry, invention
and art. The communities listed below are just a sampling of the attractions that
make the Capital area a perfect place to live, work and rear a family.
